I have a client who has had right hip pain for around 6 months.  has seen a physio a few times who relieves the pain with some sort of electrical impulse machine. They said it is a trapped nerve that runs from lumbar, around hip and down the front of the knee and branches either side of anterior leg.  What nerve could that be?  I wondered whether the client has misunderstood about front and back of leg and is talking about sciatic nerve, but I'm not sure.   The worst of his pain seems to be across the front of his hip and into the groin area. last few days he says it is uncomfortable all the time, and it was painful for him to flex the hip.  I am seeing the client next week for a full screening, but he wanted to see me at short notice today because he is quite uncomfortable.  I just screened his hips, which were positive, and SLR, though that was more positive on his left side and it's his right that's painful.  I noticed that his bad leg has much less muscle tone than his left, and he reckons that's from having his leg in traction for 6 months when a teenager (he is in 60s now). I massaged around Piriformis area on painful side, and gave him leg press and 4sign to do til I see him next week (these exercises do not cause him discomfort) The physio had given him hamstring stretches to do, and also a bicycle movement with his legs (which hurt him).  I have advised just to do leg press and 4sign. I will do a full screen next week, but do you have any ideas what the problem might be? i would like to so some kind of soft tissue work to relieve the pain along with the full screen next time. I'm sure you will advise to wait til the screening to diagnose what is causing the problem, but do you have any ideas what could be going on? The nerve issue running along front of hip and leg is confusing me!
