Median Nerve Test
Permalink

Hi,

I just wanted to double check something for the median nerve test. As an example, if a client has rotated their arm and extended wrist and feels some tension that does not change when they shrug their shoulder then I know that is a negative. However, if as you move the arm to 45 degrees the area of the tension changes but again is not relieved by a shoulder shrug then is that still a negative because releasing the stretch on the nerve doesn't make any difference or is it like the SLR whereby any change as you move is counted as a positive result?

Thanks,

Jeff

That sounds like muscle tension to me Jeff, I had this problem today and just diagnosed it as muscle tension because the test wasn't positive.

I just wanted to ask Martin if my client shrugs there shoulder and the tension does not go away do I continue to raise there arm to a 45 degree angle and ask if anything changes? to see if they do have a tight median nerve within the 45 degree range?
